Why is it called "The Doe Report"?

The name for The Doe Report was derived from MLA's policy of renaming all medical exhibit titles to John Doe, Jane Doe or Baby Doe prior to publication. The surname "Doe" is commonly used in medical and legal literature to preserve the anonymity of persons whose case records are used in an educational context. In addition to changing client names, all images, likenesses, dates, records, and other identifiable information associated with the exhibits have been altered or removed to prevent identification.
Mature Audience Warning

Users are cautioned that certain exhibits in The Doe Report depict graphic illustrations of anatomy, surgery, pathology, and trauma of the human body. The contents of this web site are developed for, and intended to be viewed by, professionals and students in the medical-legal community in an educational context.
