Ankle Replacement - Medical Animation
MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: If a person has severe arthritis of the ankle, a doctor may recommend a surgical procedure called ankle arthroplasty, or total ankle replacement. The ankle is the joint that connects the leg and the foot. The ankle joint includes the two lower leg bones, called the tibia and the fibula, and the ankle bone, called the talus.  The joint allows the foot to move up and down. On the ends of the bones is a smooth, gliding covering called articular cartilage Sometimes, the ankle can become damaged by injuy, normal wear and tear or diseases. This can result in arthritis which is painful joint inflammation and stiffness. Over time, the articular cartilage can wear away causing the exposed boney surfaces to rub together. In addition, arthritis can lead to changes in the shape of the bones in the ankle joints. For example, boney projections called bone spurs can develop. The bone spurs along with the damaged cartilage can make it hard to move the foot up and down. As a result, it can be difficult to walk and go up and down stairs. Two types of arthritis that can affect the ankle joint are Osteoarthritis due to wear and tear on the joint or injury. Or Rheumatoid arthritis; one of several auto-immune disorders that causes inflammation in the joint. A surgical procedure called total ankle replacement is done to replace a severely damaged ankle joint. The surgeon will make an incision on the front of the damaged ankle to reveal the ankle joint. Next, the ends of the tibia and talus will be removed. A man made joint called an implant or prosthesis , will be inserted into the ankle. At the end of the procedure the incision will be closed with stitches. After the ankle replacement the patient will be able to move the ankle more fully and experience less pain during activity.

What attorneys say about MLA and The Doe Report:
"This past year, your company prepared three medical illustrations for our cases; two in which we received six figure awards; one in which we received a substantial seven figure award. I believe in large part, the amounts obtained were due to the vivid illustrations of my clients' injuries and the impact on the finder of fact."

"It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Medical Legal Art. We have used their services for three years and always found their professionalism, quality of work, and timely attention to detail to exceed our expectations. We recently settled two complicated catastrophic injury cases. One medical malpractice case involving a spinal abscess settled for 3.75 million and the other involving injuries related to a motor vehicle accident settled for 6.9 million. We consider the artwork provided by MLA to have been invaluable in helping us to successfully conclude these cases.

I highly recommend MLA to anyone seeking high quality, detailed medical legal artwork."

"For modern audiences, it is absolutely essential to use medical demonstrative evidence to convey the severity and extent of physical injuries to a jury. Your company's high quality illustrations of our client's discectomy surgery, combined with strong expert testimony, allowed the jury to fully appreciate the significance of our client's injuries.

We are very pleased with a verdict exceeding $297,000.00, far in excess of the $20,000.00 initially offered by the defendant. The medical demonstrative evidence provided by Medical Legal Art was an asset we could not have afforded to have been without."

"I have a medical illustration created by Medical Legal Art at the beginning of every case to tell the client's story, usually before I depose the defendant doctor. The work product and cost-efficiency are outstanding. It is a situation where, as a trial lawyer, I don't leave home without it."
